[/media-credit]Balancing act: Colorado Creative Industries' grant money may be widely spread, but it's desperately needed in the current climate.
Colorado Creative Industries today unveiled 132 grants to the tune of $922,000 for arts organizations and government agencies across 32 Colorado counties.
Colorado Creates, the agency’s largest grant program, is a lifeline for frequently cash-strapped nonprofit cultural organizations and government agencies producing and presenting arts and cultural activities. Each of the 132 organizations received between $4,000 and $10,000.
The grants cover events and activities taking place between July 1, 2011 and June 30, 2012.
“There are over 186,000 jobs in our state’s creative sector, making it the fifth largest employment cluster,” said Elaine Mariner, Director of the Creative Industries Division, in a press release. “By investing in this sector’s vitality, the state builds its reputation as a premier creative hub and reaps significant economic returns.”
The state’s Creative Industries Division — formerly known as Colorado Council on the Arts — was established in July 2010 by merging the Colorado Council on the Arts, the Office of Film, Television and Media, and the state’s Art in Public Places program.
